Illa Desktop Theme

The new Illa theme is being added to Qimo 2.0!  Designed for our new character Illa, this theme’s pink and purple color color scheme is a girl-friendly compliment to existing blue and white Qimo theme.   Look for the new theme and other improvements in the Qimo 2.0 Alpha 3 release due later this month.

This is the perfect OS for my 3-year-old daughter to get started on mouse & keyboard skills, plus have fun in the process! She’ll love the new Illa desktop theme 🙂

I’m a bit confused as to why Xubuntu has been chosen over the standard Ubuntu distribution. Xubuntu doesn’t offer a huge advantage in terms of the system specs it requires and Ubuntu is always a lot more advanced and polished. I also didn’t see any applications that aren’t already in the Ubuntu repositories.

Over all this is a good effort. The new theme looks great. But I think you’d be better off using Ubuntu as your base rather than Xubuntu.

Kevin, Xubuntu actually does offer a pretty significant advantage in performance, especially on older computers. Since we designed Qimo to be used in second hand computers, it’s important that we squeeze as much performance out of old hardware as we can. Xfce provides us a good balance between efficiency and functionality.

Of course, my daughter is getting an older, second-hand machine, which is why I think Qimo using Xubuntu is a great choice. I don’t know how many parents are going to use the latest quad-core gaming systems for their toddlers’ machines.
